"IN THE VOICE OF OUR MOTHERS" a riveting play at EMJC - SAT 1/28 at 7:30pm

The Show
****************
"In The Voice of Our Mothers" is a powerful play that breathes life into ancient texts, told this time from the point of view of the women. Intimate, powerful, and personal narratives of our Biblical matriarchs, told vividly as imagined by renowned playwright and director Carol Fox Prescott.  Although based on Sacred Texts, the play transcends its setting while its characters become Everywoman, talking with her neighbors, confiding in her friends about real life challenges and day to day living. Sarah may be sharing her shifting feelings for Abraham and Isaac, and yes, even God, but she could just as easily be a woman of today, talking about her beloved—because life as we know it, with all of its subtleties and complications, happens again and again and again.

The Audience Buzz
*************************
"Startling and Provocative"

"The matriarchs' stories brought me closer to my humanness, my yearning for love and connection, my ongoing grappling with faith, belief, and spirit, with roles, with life in this world, with my becoming more fully myself…."– Audience member

"This is an event for people of any faith, or none; for men as well as for women; for mature teens as well as elders. I have seen men crying at these performances, because their own buried longing for spirit, for reconciliation, for peace and understanding, for wholeness made itself known. The dialogue after the performance yielded the connection, and some of the answers, they were seeking. For those of us present, there is the possibility that in being together, we can be carried to a place we would not come to alone."– Rev. Perri Ardman, interfaith minister

"I loved getting into the hearts and souls of these iconic women." Audience Member

"Changed my view of religion, the Bible, women, and myself."  Audience Member

"I loved the mix of ancient tales that became close because they were told in a very contemporary way that is at the same time ageless!!"– Shoshanna
