#therevolution
By Kristoffer Diaz
Directed by Liesl Tommy
Sometimes life is too much to take. Sometimes it makes you do dumb things. Sometimes that dumb thing is killing someone. Sometimes when you kill someone, an army rises up in your name. Then you've got to deal with that. #therevolution is an extra dark comedy about two young women who accidentally take over the world and devote themselves to fixing it. Or just enjoying the fame. Either of those.

Monday, May 5th, 7p.m.
61 Local
61 Bergen Street
Brooklyn, NY
A, C to Hoyt Schermerhorn; F, G to Bergen
Admission is FREE! No reservation necessary.
Please join us at 61 Local, a public house serving local fare--beer, wine, coffee and food. After the reading, we invite you to stay for conversation with the artists.

Listing removal?

Hi,

I was wondering if you could delete this post:

http://dplistings.blogspot.com/2011/06/1970s-vintage-cruiser-bicycle.html

It was mine from a few years ago, and it has my phone number on it.  I'd rather it not be searchable on the interwebs.

Thanks so much,

Leigh Vandebogart

M. Edgar Rosenblum (1932-2010), enjoyed a remarkable career in arts management that shaped and gave power to regional theatre in the United States. His legacy will be honored with the first M. Edgar Rosenblum Awards to be given at a ceremony on November 15, at the new Irondale Center, 85 South Oxford Street, in the BAM Cultural District of Fort Greene. The Irondale Ensemble Project, established 28 years ago, is a permanent ensemble known for its innovative theatrical productions as well a ground-breaking education programs with teachers and students in public schools, incarcerated men and women, and adolescents at risk of AIDS/HIV. The founders of Irondale, Jim Niesen, Barbara Mackenzie-Wood and Terry Greiss first met when they were hired as young actors at Long Wharf in 1977. According to
Artistic Director, Jim Niesen, "Working at Long Wharf in a tremendously supportive creative environment, gave us the model of how we wanted to keep working throughout our careers. It also brought the three of us together in what clearly became, for all of us, our most important professional and personal relationship". Terry Greiss, Irondale's Executive Director said, "Jim
and I have been working as a team for 36 years. Although we didn't set out to model ourselves after Arvin (Brown) and Edgar, it was an important and successful example of partnership that we were exposed to early in our careers". Barbara Mackenzie-Wood, now Head of the Acting/Music Theatre Program at Carnegie Mellon University said, "Edgar was a mentor for us all. When we started Irondale, he was always willing to give us advice or talk to our board. I think he was proud of what we created and we were always quick to acknowledge our roots. The honorees we have chosen are people that Edgar would be proud to have his name associated with."

About Irondale
As a 31 year old Ensemble, Irondale has received national and international accolades for its theatrical performances which are often driven by themes that emerge from the social and political climate, as well as the ability to take unique approaches to well known tales.  Now with their own space, the Irondale Center in Fort Greene they have also been instrumental in supporting the work of emerging and mature artists.

The Irondale Center, part of the Downtown Brooklyn Cultural District is uniquely and entirely run and maintained by the Irondale Ensemble. Brooklyn, NY: Roulette presents "Soundbites" a celebration of their 35 years at the helm of experimental music, dance and intermedia. This significant event, the first salute to Roulette's long history of innovative  and experimental programming, will feature six performances by a selection artists whose work truly represents  Roulette's unparalleled and unique perspective. Featured artists will be Jen Shyu, Jennifer Choi, Tristan Perich, Darius Jones , Gelsey Bell, and Mario Diaz de Leon, the event will be hosted by highly acclaimed musician and WNYC host,  David Garland.

Roulette was conceived and incorporated in 1978  by Jim Staley, David Weinstein and Dan Senn, three composers who met at the University of Illinois. The first concert was in Chicago at the Old Town School of Folk Music in November 1978 (a favorite haunt of Odetta, Mason Williams and other greats). By 1979 Staley had established a loft performance space in Tribeca, New York with a piano and a recording facility.
In the summer of 1980 the group produced five concerts there and was inundated with requests by composers who loved the room. Even in these early days, Roulette paid the artists a fee. Weinstein said, "How will we choose who to show?" Staley said, "Let's do them all!"  A community was born, and the work of learning how to support such an endeavor began in full.

Over the next three decades, Roulette built and continues to build, an international reputation for the quality and quantity of its eclectic programming, its dedication to the inquisitive, and its transformation of a loft space into a finely tuned environment for performing and listening to music. Thousands of artists have presented their work at Roulette. Many of them are now recognized as the leaders of avant-garde music. Roulette also continues to foster and support the work of emerging artists presenting a complex spectrum avant jazz, world music, experimental rock, improvisation, computer music, new technologies, and traditional and hybrid chamber ensembles.

In September 2011, Roulette took up residency in an Art Deco concert hall in Downtown Brooklyn. The new space features two levels of seating for up to 400 people (600 standing), an expanded multi-channel sound system, projection screen for film and multi-media events, state-of-the-art lighting system, modular stage, and a specially designed floor to accommodate dance. Since finding a new home, Roulette  has received numerous accolades from major national and international critics and has been tipped as one of the city's best concert halls.
