Email from your neighbor, Steve Slavin

Hi everybody!

You might enjoy reading my three-volume short story collection, To the City, with Love. Please check out my website:
tothecity.net

I was born in Brooklyn, and have lived in Ditmas Park West for the last thirty-five years. My stories, which are set in
New York, are about people whom you might even know. You can find many of the stories by googling "Steve Slavin"
"short story."

Perhaps my main claim to fame is having run on the James Madison High School track team with Bernie Sanders,
and having been college roommates with him (Google "Steve Slavin" "Bernie Sanders.") He even appears in one
of my stories.

Best regards,

Steve

Subject: [DPWNA] Cecilia C cortez for City Council district 40

Dear Neighbors:
How are you?

I am writing to inform you that my name is Cecilia C. Cortez and I am running for City Council District 40.
I have lived in the neighborhood for 27 years.  I raised my son here and have been part of this community all these years.
I have worked with the DPW association on many projects.

I had hoped to announce my candidacy at a large gathering with everyone attending and having a drink.  However, given the circumstances, we will not be getting together for a while.  Although these are difficult times we must continue to stay together as a community.
Getting information out on what is happening in the community and around the world is crucial at this time.  Information is power.  We must keep abreast of what is happening around us.

Even in difficult times we must continue to uphold our system.  One example of that is taking the census.
Every person must be counted.  That will bring needed money to our community.  We depend on that money more than ever.  We need everyone regardless of their legal status to be counted.  We don't want to lose a seat in any legislative house.  We want all the representation we are entitled to.
You can do that by going on line  at https://my2020sensus.gov or call 844 330 2020.

Now more that ever we need to stay connected with each other and be aware of people's needs, particularly the most vulnerable such as the elderly, children, and pregnant women.  We can do a few things to help the elderly such as picking up medicine for them if they need it  or getting information out about what restaurants, and offices are open or closed.
In stressful situations like these there may be an increase in domestic violence.  There are services such as the hot line for domestic violence at  1 800 799 7233.  You also can provide moral support to each other by calling your neighbors and  checking up on them.
We don't know what will be the full impact of the current situation and the loss of revenue to people and businesses is unknown.

I hope you will support me in my candidacy for City Council District 40.  It will be an honor to serve you.

I hope that you and your loved ones are taking care of yourselves and each other as we navigate these uncharted waters.

Thank you,

Cecilia Cortez
