HOLIDAY HERBAL UNWIND ~ MAGIC CARPET YOGA™
Clary Sage, Lavender, Juniper & Palo Santo

Plants have been used for thousands of years in cultures around the world to aid in meditation, cleanse the spirit and connect us to the innate intelligence of nature.  Scent is directly related to the emotional and memory center of our brain and when used therapeutically invites and softens the work of healing.  During this two hour yoga class, you'll be led through one hour of active asana practice and then will settle into supported restorative poses.  I will burn woods and resins and will apply calming oils to your head, neck and shoulders.  Class will end with a 20 minute savasana and nourishing cup of Clover and Timothy tea.

Friday 12/18/15

"White Pine is native to the eastern United States and was known as the great tree of peace to the Iroquois.  So deep was this connection to peace that when the Iroquois would seal a peace agreement they would bury their weapons under a white pine tree.  When you tincture the plant, you tincture the needles, the bark and the twigs which produces a resinous tincture that is super high in vitamin c.  In my experience the tree provides a deep rooted peacefulness that allows you to experience joy.  By working on the lungs, it imparts a lightness to the body reminiscent of its thin, feathery evergreen needles."

Head on over to my blog to learn more about some of the plants I call on to support me through the winter and the holiday season:
WHITE PINE, TULSI, CARDAMOM, JUNIPER & CATNIP

Herbs & Oils for Musculoskeletal Pain, A workshop at Samamkaya Yoga, Dec. 3rd

Herbs & Oils for Musculoskeletal Pain at Samamkaya Yoga, NYC December 3rd 2015
View this email in your browser

"Do not think of yourself as a small, compressed, suffering thing.  Think of yourself as graceful and expanding, however unlikely it may seem."

BKS Iyengar, Light on Life

Aches and pains.  We all have them.  Some of us have them in our head, some of us have them in our spine, some of us have them in our pinky toes.

As an herbalist and yoga teacher I look at pain as a signal, a way for the body to communicate that something is out of harmony.  In this light pain can be seen as illuminating; it teaches us about ourselves and points us in the direction toward healing and growth.

There is no magic pill for pain, herbal or otherwise, but there are many plants that we can work with to manage pain and realign the parts of us that are out of balance.

On Thursday, December 3rd I will be teaching a workshop on herbs for pain in the musculoskeletal system at Samamkaya Yoga. This workshop is part of Samamkaya Yoga's Holistic Healing Series and I am honored to be presenting this subject at this unique yoga and backcare center in Manhattan.   Details are below. I hope to see you there!

In health & community,
Alicia Allison
