Return of the in-person Growtogether Conference to feature workshops on growing food, native pollinators, healthy eating, and much more!

DETAILS: Join NYC Parks GreenThumb for three days of exciting hands-on workshops in community gardens around the city as they present Part Two of the annual Growtogether Conference!
With the virtual segment of the conference concluded last month, part two will be hosted in-person in community gardens in all five boroughs in celebration of Earth Week! Join GreenThumb for workshops about growing food, healthy eating, native pollinators, flower arrangement, planting seeds, screen printing garden swag, volunteer projects, and more. All the activities are free and open to the public!

Highlights Include:
Keeping Chickens in Our City Garden | Wednesday, April 20, 6 - 7:30 p.m.
Tranquility Farm, 659 Willoughby Ave.
Chickens add so much to community gardens – fresh, organic local eggs are just the tip of the iceberg! This workshop will cover all the basics of caring for a city flock: the preparation needed, housing, feeding, watering, and health care in all seasons of the year and their lives. Participants may take home a copy of Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens by Gail Damerow, while supplies last. Facilitated by Alex LaMond and Damon McCullough, chicken caretakers and gardeners at Tranquility Farm.
Soap Making 101 | Friday, April 22, 1 - 3 p.m.
Phoenix Community Garden, 16 Somers St.
Make your own soap using an easy melt-and-pour method with herbs and flowers from your garden. This event is facilitated by Marcia Denson of the Phoenix Community Garden and participants will take home their own bar of herbal soap, while supplies last.
Growing Mushrooms in Your Garden | Saturday, April 23, 11 - 1 p.m.
First Quincy Street Community Garden, 401 Quincy St.
In this workshop, participants will learn how to use low cost and low tech methods to easily start growing gourmet mushrooms in indoor and outdoor gardens. The workshop will cover two methods of mushroom cultivation: how to grow oyster mushrooms in bags using straw, coffee grounds, and similar low cost materials; and how to grow wine cap mushrooms in raised garden beds using wood chips. Participants will leave with a small supply of oyster mushroom spawn to start their own growing projects, while supplies last. Facilitated by Erinn White, Outreach Coordinator at NYC Parks GreenThumb.
