Soarin' over Staten Island at Freshkills Park
DATE: Sunday, April 19, 2015
TIME: 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
LOCATION: Freshkills Park
350 Wild Avenue
STATEN ISLAND
DETAILS: "Soarin' Over Staten Island" is half hawk watch, half kite festival, and all fun! A windy spring weekend is the perfect time to head to the top of Freshkill's North Park and look for migrant hawks returning home to NYC. Take advantage of a gorgeous panoramic view and unobstructed winds to watch kites and birds soar over Staten Island. All ages are welcome.
Learning activities focused on hawks and other birds that call the skies of Staten Island home will be hosted by the Staten Island Museum, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, and scientists from CUNY College of Staten Island and Hunter College. Bring your own kite or assemble a free kite at the event.
Directions: Shuttles will run continuously from event parking at 350 Wild Avenue into the Park. From Manhattan: Buses will depart from the Staten Island Ferry Terminal in St. George at 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and will make return trips to St. George at 2pm and 3:30 p.m.
About Freshkills Park Programs: The FkP Development team hosts programs that allow visitors to discover the otherwise closed site during its exciting transformation from landfill to park. Join us on one of our scheduled activities to see it for yourself!
