Well, its been a while since I posted a haulage post, but after a pal has gone
to Japan and a little local fair, as well as online shopping and a few too many
glasses of wine, here we go with a few pics.
My Ginrai, from Gutto Kuru. Originally he came with two right arms That's his
properly done replacement. Frenzy and Rumble of Prime, coz they have Gurren
Lagaan faces on their chests (yes I am that shallow), Kreon Combiners
(YEEEEEEAAAAH!), Ripclaw a nice lady dragon, but pretty boring lady robot.
The one Transformer that needs no introduction.
A Prime General Vehicon, Masterpiece cassettes of the Buzzsaw, Frenzy, Rumble,
Ravage nature. A bunch of stuff from a buds visit from Japan (thanks man ) that
has some Strike Witches Luccini stickers, a saucy manga featuring the
aforementioned witch, some chick from some gae with a big sword that looks cool
that I like the look of, Hastune Miku music CD and DIVA F game for PS3, a
Luccini statue thingy and some other stuff that I cant make out from the
thumbnail I am looking at.
Yeah, I can be lazy. So what?

[Toy] Roy's Amazing BATMAN COSPLAY COSTUMES From Australia!!
Toy has posted a new item, 'Roy's Amazing BATMAN COSPLAY COSTUMES From
Australia!!'
POW! Check out these totally insane BATMAN Costumes created by a Cosplay Guy in
Australia named Roy. Yes, he's from that magical "Land Down Under" and it's so
cool that the Batman character is not only very well known there but also very
popular!
Now, about the costumes. The 1st photo shows a Silver Age 1970's version of
Batman inspired by the artwork of Neal Adams. This is a favorite era of mine
because, I guess, it was my early childhood and my main introduction to the
comic books. Also, Neal Adams' artwork from that time period is great stuff.
I've always loved the Blue & Yellow Bat-Suit!
Next, we move up in time a decade or so to a Costume inspired by the classic DC
Comics Graphic Novel, "Gotham By Gaslight". For the few Bat-Fans unfamiliar with
this version, this was the first story in a new line of "Elseworlds" books.
Basically, they did stories which do not exist inside regular character
continuity. In other words, they're "made-up stories" that ask questions sort of
like "What if... Superman's Rocket from Krypton had landed in Russia instead of
America?". Well, this book was very Steampunk-inspired and asked the question,
"What if Bruce Wayne had lived in 1889 instead of a more modern-day era?"It's
really cool, kind of reminds me of Sherlock Holmes a little bit, that time in
history.
Seriously, if you have not read it yet you should, it's great! But either way,
Roy's cosplay on this theme is very excellent & very well done.
Then, last but not least, is a photo of him and a friend dressed up as BATMAN
AND ROBIN THE BOY WONDER from the Classic 1966 BATMAN TV Series or, the Adam
West & Burt Ward versions!! These TV Show Costumes are really really great too
and, because of the format in size, I made this photo a WALLPAPER BACKGROUND
that YOU can use to brighten your desktop, ZAP!

Now, about the costumes. The 1st photo shows a Silver Age 1970's version of
Batman inspired by the artwork of Neal Adams. This is a favorite era of mine
because, I guess, it was my early childhood and my main introduction to the
comic books. Also, Neal Adams' artwork from that time period is great stuff.
I've always loved the Blue & Yellow Bat-Suit!
Next, we move up in time a decade or so to a Costume inspired by the classic DC
Comics Graphic Novel, "Gotham By Gaslight". For the few Bat-Fans unfamiliar with
this version, this was the first story in a new line of "Elseworlds" books.
Basically, they did stories which do not exist inside regular character
continuity. In other words, they're "made-up stories" that ask questions sort of
like "What if... Superman's Rocket from Krypton had landed in Russia instead of
America?". Well, this book was very Steampunk-inspired and asked the question,
"What if Bruce Wayne had lived in 1889 instead of a more modern-day era?"It's
really cool, kind of reminds me of Sherlock Holmes a little bit, that time in
history.
Seriously, if you have not read it yet you should, it's great! But either way,
Roy's cosplay on this theme is very excellent & very well done.
Then, last but not least, is a photo of him and a friend dressed up as BATMAN
AND ROBIN THE BOY WONDER from the Classic 1966 BATMAN TV Series or, the Adam
West & Burt Ward versions!! These TV Show Costumes are really really great too
and, because of the format in size, I made this photo a WALLPAPER BACKGROUND
that YOU can use to brighten your desktop, ZAP!

Brooklyn, NY: Roulette presents "Five Beasts" a collaboration between Grammy Award winning performance artist Rinde Eckert and highly acclaimed musician Ned Rothenberg. "Five Beasts" is a set of human portraits of men and women seen as if by an animal, the language a kind of music or noise, the gestures unaccountable. We are, most of us, lost in a forest of our own design, a welter of unconscious narratives, the pull of our complicated past, an obsessive constructor of futures, howling our troubled allegory of self: this is our masquerade-cum-delusion. But the animal informs and teaches us – if we listen. We are absurd and amazed, and sometimes beautiful, in our utter ignorance.
Performance artist/vocalist Rinde Eckert and composer/performer Ned Rothenberg first worked together over 20 years ago in a production of Power Failure by the Paul Dresher Ensemble and have fantasized about a future collaboration ever since. In October 2012, the chance came at the Walls and Bridges festival, presented at Roulette by Lyon's Villa Gillet. The response to their Five Beasts was overwhelming, prompting Roulette director Jim Staley to invite Eckert and Rothenberg to expand the piece into an evening length work. Ned and Rinde are joined by beatbox artist Adam Matta in this new version.
Rinde Eckert is a writer, composer, singer, actor, and director whose music, music theater, and dance theater pieces have been performed throughout the United States and abroad. He has received a Guggenheim Fellowship in Music Composition, a Marc Blitzstein Award (from The American Academy of Arts and Letters), an Obie Award (And God Created Great Whales), a Grammy Award (Lonely Motel – Music from Slide), an Alpert Award (2009), and a Doris Duke Performing Artist Award (2012). He was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama in 2007 for Orpheus X.
Composer/Performer Ned Rothenberg has been internationally acclaimed for both his solo and ensemble music, presented for the past 30 years in North and South America, Europe and Asia. He performs primarily on the alto saxophone, clarinet , bass clarinet, and the shakuhachi – an endblown Japanese bamboo flute. He leads the trio Sync, with Jerome Harris, guitars and Samir Chatterjee, tabla. Recent recordings include Quintet for Clarinet and Strings, Ryu Nashi (new music for shakuhachi), Inner Diaspora, The Lumina Recordings and Ghost Stories, all on John Zorn's acclaimed Tzadik label, as well as Live at Roulette with Evan Parker, Are You Be and The Fell Clutch, on Rothenberg's own label.

[Toy] Last day of too much food.
Toy has posted a new item, 'Last day of too much food.'
And here we are, on the final day of the holiday and desperately trying to cram
in a few final bits of fun before I head back home to the unorganised drudgery
of Australia again. Whenever I go to Japan, there are three foods that I really
looks for:
Melon Pan
Mr Donuts
Mos Burger
Ok. Only one of those is a food. The other are food chains oh well.Thus
commences the adventures of :6th August 2012Mr Donuts is a donut shop, that
manages to not have all that many donuts but is full of crazy sweet foods.Mos
Burger is a rather unnappetising name for a burger chain that actually have
quite nice burgers and such, as well as seasonal bonuses.But first, MELON PAN.It
is a little bun falvoured with melon icing of sorts. It is kind of rockmelon/
honey dew melon flavoured and I (as well as others I know) love it. I had bought
some the previous day as an unhealthy breakfast for the last day. AAaaaaw. It
looks a bit like this.
Oh man, I miss melon pan and I havent found it anyway in AustraliaLunch was Mos
Burger. I remember avoiding the place when I first went to Japan thinking it was
some bizarre vegetarian burger chain. Oh how wrong I was. They actually have a
varied selection of burgers and serve them rather well. After a bit of packing
and preparation, we hit the Mos Burger.I miss Mos Burger.Summer time is Mos
Burger time!
Hot damn! look at those there baskets o goods. Mmmm nice chips, Iced tea for my
beverage and a nifty little papaer wrapper around my burger so I dont get sloppy
all down my hands.And the last bit was Mr Donuts. I dont know where Mr Donuts
originates from, but a good guess would be U.S.A. There are no Mr Donuts that I
know of in Australia and despite talking about donuts, they dont really have
that many. I will say this though: Mr Donuts puts Australias Donut King AND
Krispy Kreme to shame. Incidentally, people rave like obsessed acolytes about
Krispy Kreme donuts, but when I had some it was a gluggy blob of crap. I just
dont get it, I just assume by default now that Australians are so used to bad
service, high prices and crap food that they just accept it nowI digress though,
Mr Donuts has a vast selection. Look at this Donut King and weep. You arent
worthy to lick the empty boxes of Mr Donuts!!!!And just in case you want a
closer look at the variety of goods.And some Choice close ups:In the centre
above, Ginger donuts of 3 types. Yes, 3 tyoes of GINGER donuts! Bottom right are
coconut & Chocolate donuts (thatd be lamington no less). Top right corner
(behind the green sign) is Old fashioned green teaIn this one we have Hamburger
Pie, Pon De Strawberry, Pon de Enzeru (Like and eclair), Golden Crunch,
Chocolate, Double choc, custard cream, mashed potato mini-pie.As you can see,
savoury is fairly popular as well. Oh man, I want some donuts now, but all that
I can get that wont be crap will be the old cinnamon sugared donuts. Sigh.Get
your shit together Donut King and see what the world has to offer!Anyway now
that my rant is (mostly) over, we bought some donuts and took them home for
munchies later on and thus came the end of my holiday in Japan for 2012.Thinking
about it now, its almost time we headed back again! MWA HA HA HA HA!

Based in Brooklyn since 1979, Elise Long and Spoke the Hub Dancing have been hailed by the local press and public as "neighborhood treasures" and "cultural pioneers", creating the Living Room Performance Space on 9th Street (1980 – 84); the Gowanus Arts Exchange on Douglass Street (founded in 1985, relocated and renamed the Brooklyn Arts Exchange/BAX, now active as a separate organization); and the Spoke the Hub Re:Creation Center on Union Street (1995- present).
About Old Stone House
The Old Stone House is a museum and cultural center that explores the American Revolution and colonial life, located in the center of Washington Park and JJ Byrne Playground. Part of the Historic House Trust of New York City, our building has a great story -- a Robert Moses-WPA reconstruction of the dutch farmhouse originally built in 1699, the site of the largest battle of the Revolutionary War, and the original home of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Just as Avenging Angel subverted expectations of solo improvised piano, so does Taborn's Chants find its own response to the vast tradition of the piano trios. The pieces that Taborn has been writing for the band in the eight years of its existence are set-up to generate a new group music by channelling the special skills of drummer Gerald Cleaver and bassist Thomas Morgan. "I knew that if I created a context and then deferred, fully, to Gerald's and Thomas's sensibilities it would inherently be stimulating and would also challenge the context. I wanted to invite that challenge: I'd much rather engage with the group, always, than have the format be 'piano adventures with supporting cast". Morgan and Cleaver share the leader's concern for compositional shape and multi-layered improvisational detail, as the music is pulled between the poles of density and spaciousness, to dramatic and thrilling effect. Craig Taborn studied music theory and composition with university teachers for two years at high school. While still a university student, he became known for his membership of saxophonist James Carter's band, where he contributed to a series of albums, beginning with "JC on the Set", which was recorded in 1993. His first recording as leader came in 1994. In the following year, he graduated from the University of Michigan with a liberal arts degree. During the 1990s he also worked with Mat Maneri, Roscoe Mitchell, Nate Smith, Lotte Anker, Dave Binney, Wayne Krantz, Adam Rogers and others.
In 2001 he made his first recordings under the leadership of Tim Berne, and with the Susie Ibarra trio. In the same year, he made his second recording as leader: Light Made Lighter, with Chris Lightcap on bass and Gerald Cleaver on drums. "On the strength of this recording," wrote the Los Angeles Times reviewer, "Taborn emerges as one of the most exciting pianists to lead a band since the ascent of Matthew Shipp". He went on to work, in 2002, with Dave Douglas, Hugh Ragin, and the Norwegian bassist Eivind Opsvik; with Marty Ehrlich in 2003; Drew Gress in 2004, and Chris Potter, from 2005. He has worked with many other musicians, including David Torn, Michael Formanek, and Tomasz Stanko, as well as with members of The Bad Plus, having grown up with that band's drummer, Dave King and bassist, Reid Anderson. His first solo album, Avenging Angel, was released in 2011. Taborn toured internationally with Dave Holland's quartet "Prism" in 2012.
