A Festival of Fools is pleased to announce the inaugural production of our Interim Series: "Downfalls:
Shakespearean Shorts of Doom" – selected scenes by William Shakespeare. The production consists of 7
scenes from different Shakespeare plays, each centered on the theme of " downfalls," and directed by individual
directors hailing from across the New York City classical theater spectrum. This one-night-only performance is on
Saturday, March 19th at 8:00 p.m., at the Center for Performance Research in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. For information call (347) 414-2565 or visit www.afestivaloffools.com.
Artistic Director Tim Bungeroth decided to take the company' s first foray into Shakespeare after five regular-season
shows. Having tackled Marlowe, Yeats, de la Barca and Bungeroth' s own original verse drama, the company dives
into the Bard' s material for the first time, bringing together directors and actors from Mortal Folly Theatre, the Bent
Quill Players, NYU, Pace and other institutions to mount their own imaginings of a theme Shakespeare did best:
ultimate ruin. It' s the moment that Hamlet chooses madness and revenge over suicide; the moment that King Richard
gives up his crown; the moment that Katherine gets corralled. They all add up to spell destruction for the characters
and cathartic delight for the audience. Featuring scenes from Richard II, Hamlet, The Taming of the Shrew, Macbeth,
The Winter' s Tale, Richard III and 2 Henry IV.
A wine and cheese reception will follow the performance; tickets include admission and one free drink.
Directors are Deloss Brown, Dana Dobreva, Katherine-Harte DeCoux, Meaghan Cross, Tim McKiernan, David
Rysdahl.
Company mission: It is our mission to provide audiences with a retreat from the mediums of film and television. Inspired by the
Elizabethan verse play, we place language at the forefront of our productions as a mechanism through which to
explore mythology and folklore. We seek to visually captivate through acrobatics, swordplay and mask. While we
are determined to stage effective productions of established verse plays, our primary goal is to produce new ones
tailored for a contemporary audience - in regards to length, and vernacular. Focusing on these elements allows us to
provide our audience with engaging and exciting performances that are both cost efficient and affordable.
