On the chance any of you have musical tweens and teens in your orbit, I wanted to let you know about Urban Garage - a free, monthly performance lab I run with my husband, for kids interested in musical genres that aren't taught in schools (pop, rock, blues, folk etc). The first hour is an open mic, the second is a guided jam where we mix and match players and singers, pass out lead sheets/chord charts and work through the nuances of playing in a group setting (how to count off tunes, call solos, use mic technique and hand signals etc).

There are no auditions, and anyone can come listen (including any of you).
