JOIN NYC PARKS' URBAN PARKS RANGERS FOR THE THIRD ANNUAL POST-THANKSGIVING DAY HIKES 

 

Skip the shopping, and explore the city's wonderful natural areas with Parks' expert guides

EVENT:                          NYC Parks Urban Park Rangers to host Post-Thanksgiving Day hikes in all five boroughs to encourage outdoor exploration, physical activity, and fall fun.   

  

DETAILS:                       This Friday, work off your Thanksgiving feast while enjoying the great outdoors. Join the Urban Park Rangers for the third annual Post-Thanksgiving Day Hikes! Skip the shopping and spend some time outdoors on Parks' expert-led hikes throughout the city. The Urban Park Rangers have been offering free nature programming to New Yorkers for over 40 years! You can explore nature, discover our city's urban forests, or just unplug from the world to clear your mind.  

  

Lace up your hiking boots - comfortable walking footwear is highly recommended. Tours include:  

  

The Alley Giant- Alley Pond Park Adventure Course (Alley Pond Park), Queens  

9 – 11 a.m.  

This hike will take you to the oldest living organism in New York, the "Alley Giant" tulip tree.   

  

Northern Manhattan Parks Super Hike- 218th Street and Indian Road (Inwood Hill Park), Manhattan   

11 a.m. – Noon  

This hike will take you through Inwood Hill and Fort Tryon Parks.   

  

Prospect Park South to North- Prospect Park, Brooklyn  

11 a.m. – 1 p.m.   

Rangers lead the way on this lengthy hike from the south end of Prospect Park all the way through to the north.  

  

Freshkills Park- Wild Avenue Entrance (Freshkills Park), Staten Island  

10 a.m. - Noon  

Join the Urban Park Rangers and the Freshkills Alliance for a hike! This hike will take you through recently opened areas of Staten Island's largest park. Registration is strongly encouraged.  

  

John Muir Trail- Woodlawn Playground (Van Cortlandt Park), Bronx   

11 a.m. – 1 p.m.   

 This hike will traverse the park west to east and back.
