BLACK FRIDAY SALE: HIKE ONE, GET ACTIVE FOR FREE
Join NYC Parks’ Urban Park Rangers for free Black Friday hikes throughout the city
DATE: Friday, November 23, 2018
LOCATION: All five boroughs
DETAILS: Skip the Thanksgiving leftovers and the long lines at the mall and enjoy hikes through some of the best trails in the city. Our Urban Park Rangers are hosting Black Friday hikes in each borough in an effort to encourage natural exploration, physical activity, and fall fun.
Our Urban Park Ranger hiking guides will introduce you to the hidden gems of New York City. On our hikes, you may explore nature, discover our city’s urban forests, or just unplug from the world to clear your head.
If you’re ready to strap up your hiking boots, take a look at where our expert Urban Park Rangers will be leading the tours:
· The Alley Giant- Alley Pond Park Adventure Center, Queens
10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Get up close and personal with the tallest and oldest living organism in the city- the Alley Giant! The tree is estimated to be between 350 and 450 years old, and you’ll get to hike right alongside it.
· Greenbelt- LaTourette Park Parking Lot, Staten Island
11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
This hike is not for the faint of heart, expect long distances and uneven terrain but the beauty of this forest is well worth it.
· Central Park South to North Hike- Doris Freedman Plaza (Central Park), Manhattan
11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Start down in the depths of the south and make your way up north on this end to end hike of Central Park.
· Prospect Park- Audubon Center at the Boathouse (Prospect Park), Brooklyn
1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Discover hidden paths, waterways, and wildlife on this brisk hike through Brooklyn’s favorite green space. Step back in time with a walk through Brooklyn’s oldest remaining forest.
· Northwest Woods- Mosholu Parkway and Broadway
(Van Cortlant Park), Bronx
1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
This hike explores the Cass Gallagher trail in the Northwest Woods of Van Cortlandt Park. You’ll enjoy sights and sounds of nature including seasonal waterfalls, temperate forest, fertile wetlands, and rocky outcroppings.
· Hunter Island Hike- Orchard Beach Nature Center
1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Soak in the wonder of the fall foliage on this hike through an idyllic winding trail.
