FORT GREENE PARK: NYC PARKS TO HOST FOLLOW UP PARKS WITHOUT BORDERS PUBLIC INPUT MEETING
DATE: Wednesday, May 3, 2017
TIME: 7:00 p.m.
LOCATION: Ingersoll Community Center
177 Myrtle Ave
BROOKLYN
DETAILS: NYC Parks will host community members at a follow up public input meeting to discuss Parks Without Borders (PWB) site Fort Greene Park. Parks will share an update on the project, as well as preliminary design concepts based on input from November’s public meeting, and ask for feedback from the community. This project focuses on the northern edge of Fort Greene Park.
Parks Without Borders is a new design concept that will be applied to city parks capital projects to improve the areas where parks meet their neighborhoods. Supported by $50 million in Mayoral OneNYC funding, the new design approach focuses on improving park entrances, edges, and spaces adjacent to parks. By extending parks into communities, opening sight lines, adjusting gates, and adding furnishings outside parks’ traditional borders, PWB will improve New Yorkers’ access to quality parks.
Parks Without Borders launched in November 2015 with a call for community involvement. NYC Parks asked New Yorkers to nominate the best sites. Utilizing an online survey and 37 conferences with citizens at Community Board Meetings, NYC Parks Computer Resource Centers, and public libraries, Parks received more than 6,000 nominations for 691 parks, or over 30% of our parks.
