Mid-life Crisis & Terpene Profile.New AI MusicAlright folks, judge me all you want. But I’ve taken the plunge into the world of AI music: on Spotify, I have set up a separate artist profile “Nohamcm Naes” which is essentially my “Island of Misfit Toys” — songs I’ve written which frankly I’ll probably never sing myself, but which, in my humble opinion, are worthy of the light of day. I fed my voice memo acoustic demos, and other demos with skeletal arrangements (btw, if you want to hear these, I’d be curious and happy to share), into Skynet, and it spat out somewhat faithful interpretations — ok, it’s really not good yet at complex harmony or understanding my weirder chord changes, but if you didn’t know that, you’d think “dang these songs are good.” This set of tools gives me the opportunity to share music which, otherwise, I frankly might not have the time to record. In the meantime, it gives me a well-produced rendition to share with other performers who might actually like to make the tunes their own. It also lets me see which of these newer sounds I have up my sleeve you actually like… I have…a lot…of songs lined up for release on this profile. Feast your ears, for instance, on “Weed” — a poppy, pontificating R&B rap I wrote about quitting weed years upon years ago and the drastic life improvements since:
Or how about “Magnum Opus,” a synth-drenched new wave dance song about the great alchemical work that is spirituality (if we ever get two keyboardists in the live lineup, you might actually hear this one live):
My new pal Nohamcm Naes also remixed my 2014 Christmas tune “It’s Not Actually Christmas” and I shared it as the b-side on my recent holiday re-release:
Lastly, for my upcoming Christian music project, I have uploaded my AI-ified Christian songs as learning tools for anyone who wants to join me as I build up my little choir in the coming year. These can all be found on my new “Catholic Prayer Songs” profile on Spotify:
Coming Soon: “You”Now I’m not all AI fun and games. I’m still keeping my recording schedule — like, me, in my basement, playing and singing into real microphones — but trying to be a bit more deliberate about my release schedule to maximize impact on Spotify’s algorithms. Starting in January, I’ll be releasing a new batch of Christian music which is frankly hard for me to pin down genre-wise, but let’s just say it’s the closest to melodic rap I’ve ever gotten. My ethos with these songs is simple: preach a sermon that rhymes, and give the central message a hooky chorus that’s easy to take with you wherever you go. The first tune is “You,” about our true identity in and with the Divine. We are two episodes in, and are building up a schedule of special guests. Go give us a follow on YouTube and Spotify. ICYMI: Olivet Discourse Study SeriesThis off-season, I’ve been tackling one of my podcast listeners’ most oft-requested topics: the Olivet Discourse, Jesus’ “end times” prophecies. I’m 2 parts deep, with part 3 coming out this Friday: Upcoming ApperancesWednesday December 10 at Offshore Ale, Oak Bluffs, MA - with Ted MacInnes on percussion. 6-8pm Thursday December 11 at Ritz Cafe, Oak Bluffs, MA - with Ted MacInnes on drums. 8-10pm.
