I have been in a songwriting spell lately and figured it would be fun to share a brand, brand, brand new tune. There’s a few of them from this week, but I am most excited about this one, “Wise Men.” Enjoy! P.S., to all my MV locals, see you at Edgartown Porchfest this Saturday with the full band, 5pm at Eisenhauer Gallery. And 8pm at the Ritz on Sunday for the Holy Rock and Roll Revival! Wise Menlyrics: Wise men Show me the wise men Where’d the go? Will they return again? Wise men Where all them wise men? Don’t they know we could sure use a friend? No one ever expected The winds to change like they did But we should have known We were told they always would By the wise men One’s hiding out in the mountains The other’s halfway off the horse They said the heavens would fall And the stars they’d all scorch the sky as they crashed to earth ‘Til they all moved on and continued along their course Chorus I clawed my way up to see them Had to dig down in a hole Where the monsters live And the darkness rivets its rusted walls to the soul …to keep prisoner the prism That otherwise might shine Like a looking-glass ball and light up all The pain we call yours and mine It just slips the mind that all this time Is refracted forms of light As if the only shades and colors made Were monotone wrongs and rights Chorus Wise men Call in the wise men For I heard that twelve cost a dime on sale And they don’t always come with a pen Wise men Where all them wise men? Where’d they go? I don’t know, but they might be back again It’s been a twisted fall with a wintry pall smothering all the warmth and the rain But Bob’s your uncle, water’s wet, the sun it shines after it sets Can’t keep it muzzled, it will get louder when it resurrects Wise men Pray for the wise men For they know all what’s known from beginning to the end Wise men Enough with the wise men!
