I have been in a songwriting spell lately and figured it would be fun to share a brand, brand, brand new tune. There’s a few of them from this week, but I am most excited about this one, “Wise Men.” Enjoy! Song of the Week: "My Own Which Way"
Another gem dug out from the archives. I wrote this song as I departed from a music ministry position in early Spring of 2020, thinking I’d have a chance to sing it to the congregation before I went off on some musical adventures throughout North America — but the pandemic stepped in unexpectedly and dashed both hopes. The recording is a quiet, falsetto sketch of the Prince-inflected vibes I had planned for the tune, a song of gratitude for shared limited time, and hope for the future. Enjoy “My Own Which Way”…... So my oldest is 6 and we’re finally able to open up a new phase of family cinema: 80’s fantasy adventure movies. We just watched the Neverending Story, and my wife and I couldn’t get over how awesome Limahl and Beth Anderson’s theme song is. I had a little too much coffee the next morning in the studio and this song just materialized out of nowhere, capturing that vibe for the amusement of my wife and kids. The lyrics are pure whimsy, and I even tried to cop that funny nasal 80’s singing style you hear from acts like Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, the Cars, etc. Naturally, I sort of buffed it up with an overexcited guitar riff with synth fanfare that brings it more into the "80’s adventure cartoon about magical animal people who are experts at magic, fencing, and friendship” vibe. Ladies and gentlemen — “80’s ADVENTURE SONG!”
