Hello, friends and family,

Thank you to all who have already contributed to my campaign! I've been able to pay off more than $1,020 in medical bills and living expenses.

I am sending this letter as a one-time mass email to raise the remaining $5,000 that I need to cover my medical bills from the accident. The Jeremy Wilson Foundation has generously extended my deadline for raising funds to May 31.

Please click on the link below for the whole story!

http://thejwf.org/dominique-gagne

I am currently almost pain-free and have been able to return to running. As of today, May 16, I am fighting hard to get my medical history to be cleared so that I can work for Royal Caribbean Cruises this summer. I have been hired as a pianist but their medical department is skeptical about my ability to lift 50 pounds in the event of an emergency, a requirement for all ship employees. My doctor has even sent a letter in my support. Prayers welcome!

Please, make a 100% tax-deductible donation to The Jeremy Wilson Foundation to contribute towards the Dominique Gagne Emergency Healthcare Fund by clicking the orange donate button above.

Thank you so much! Love and hugs to you all!

-Dominique

P.S. You can also make a check or money order (no PayPal fees) payable to The Jeremy Wilson Foundation and mail to:

"While riding my bike to UMiami on October 8, 2013, I was hit head-on by an oncoming car. I was thrown onto the hood and launched into the air, landing on my back. The car drove away, and residents near the accident site came out of their houses to call 911 and my Mom…I broke three vertebrae, three ribs, received 13 stitches in my left foot and have nerve damage in my left arm."

The Brick Theater announces The Comic Book Theater Festival Issue #2 6/3-6/29

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Emily Owens PR | emily@emilyowenspr.com | 917.408.3677

The Brick Theater, Inc.
announces
The Comic Book Theater Festival
 Issue #2

June 3-29 @ The Brick

Comics are sometimes called "sequential art" – stories that unfold across time over the course of multiple images. This definition also applies to the art of theater – and with so much in common, it makes sense that the two should team up. After a successful first installment in 2011, the Comic Book Theater Festival is coming back to The Brick for "Issue #2" in June 2014. Get ready for a new crop of shows that explore the intersection of the panel and the stage, the live and the drawn, the ink and the actor.

The Comic Book Theater Festival Issue #2 will play a repertory schedule from June 3-29 at The Brick (579 Metropolitan Avenue, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, one block from the L train Lorimer stop / G train Metropolitan stop). Tickets ($18) are available online at www.bricktheater.com or by calling OvationTix at 212-352-3101. For more info visit www.bricktheater.com/comics.

Inspired by the deadpan theatrical works of Raymond Roussel and the puppetry–influenced plays of Alfred Jarry, as well as 19th century Bowery melodrama, Matthew Thurber's musical adaptation of his own comic is enhanced by elaborate costumes, painted backdrops, scrolls, and lo–fi special effects.

"What part of 'I don't care' don't you understand?" he says in a measured tone, as he gives that signature "Whatever" shrug. It's Apathy Boy. Yay. In a world that cares too much, Apathy Boy is really good at saving himself. In an alternate world, a high school boy tells Apathy Boy's story as he draws it into life. As these worlds collide, a hero meets his maker, and nothing will ever be the same. This new play from Foxy Henriques combines live action with animation to tell a story about ... whatever. If you want to know, come to the show. Or don't. Nothing matters anyway.

Their disagreement breaks a trust that has bonded them since day one. All hell breaks loose when Frank the Shank sparks a distribution war, geriatric assassins Jimmy the Face and Massacre Mel deliver the wrong head to gang lord rival Bohannon, and gun salesman Stan the Man sells the right bullets to the wrong men. TIME/

LOCATION:               Parks will be hosting Learn to Ride lessons throughout the month of May, at various locations in the five boroughs.

DETAILS:                   NYC Parks and Bike New York are proud to present Learn to Ride classes throughout the month of May. The free classes, taking place at locations throughout the city, teach children the fundamentals of bicycling, preparing them for years of safe and confident riding.

Using the “balance first” method, parents help get their children rolling while the child does most of the work. Participants learn the basics of balancing, starting, stopping, and steering a bike. Most people learn to ride their bike while taking the class, but even if they don’t, they will leave with an easy, hands-free, crash-free, and low-stress way to learn to ride.

Brooklyn, NY: Roulette, celebrating 35 years of experiential programming, presents Jen Shyu, solo rites: Observing the Sounds and Cries of the World, directed by Garin Nugroho Thursday, May 29th.

Jen Shyu, solo rites: Observing the Sounds and Cries of the World is a collection of sonic, visual, and visceral rites and reflections upon pilgrimage throughout Taiwan, East Timor, Indonesia (Java, Bali, Bandung, Kalimantan), Vietnam, and South Korea

Using multiple tools of expression in multiple languages (new improvised languages as well as existing ones including Indonesian, Javanese, Taiwanese, indigenous Taiwanese languages, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, Tetum, Korean), this solo performance—that of a woman living simultaneously in multiple cultures and "projecting her ancestry" (Val-Inc) through contemporary monologue—will reveal a personal journey of loss and redemption made universal, giving voice to the silenced. These losses reflect crises now plaguing these lands: the loss of voices found in traditional music and shaman rituals; the loss of habitat and wildlife and thus the linked ancient cosmology; and finally, the loss of public space, such as the submission of traditional markets and forests to malls and coal mines. These issues will be explored in performance through sound, movement, and fieldwork footage, creating a land-sound-scape which will serve to transport and transform both the performer and audience, leading to shared revelation and recovery from past sorrow.

About Jen Shyu
Born in Illinois from Taiwanese and East Timorese parents, Jen Shyu is a soloist and bandleader now based in NY, and has established herself as a pioneering and original voice in the improvisational, experimental jazz, and creative music and multidisciplinary worlds.
