[Toy] Owning Bill Murray

Toy has posted a new item, 'Owning Bill Murray'

When I was going through the excitement of my Masters of the Universe Classics
fad (lets face it, that is exactly what it was), I also noticed that Mattel were
doing some Ghostbusters figures. I have always loved Ghostbusters, I remember
seeing it at the cinema and the scene where the librarian ghost gets all scary
in the face, well, I got scared and covered my eyes.I still love the movie and I
also love Bill Murray. Now I have a little plastic Bill Murray in his
Ghostbuster outfit! Lets take a gander!

The package is much along the same lines as the Masters packaging, with the
mailer box and the carded figure in the bubble. Obviously since they are trying
to show all the goods, the figure is squashed into a rather awkward looking pose
with his proton pack firing away.
I do like the inclusion of a little info card on the back.

As well as the Ghostbusters logo on the top.Venkman looks pretty good when out
of the box, but after my initial excitement of having a Ghostbusters toy, during
the course of the photo shoot, I kind of felt my enthusiasm waning somewhat. Its
a well sculpted toy and the proton pack looks pretty good, as well as it being a
great representation of how he looks in the movie.

Thats where it falls down a bit however, as no matter how good a translation of
the movie images one gets, it is still just a guy in a puffy bland suit. Even
though it does look like Bill Murray. The face sculpt is pretty damn fine. I love
it!

As are the rest of the suit details. Well of what there are, the GB logo is
sharply applied as are the other paint applications. Suit sculpting is good with
pockets, zippers and folds all included.

The articulation on this guy is a lot better than I thought it would be. Two
things I dont really like though are his elbows and hip joints. The elbows are
semi hidden by the elbow pad, but because of this, if you attempt to straighten
the arm it comes out with a freaky looking bump. The hips on the other hand, due
to the way they are formed really break up the sculpted pants when you spread
his legs apart. I have always hated this type of hip joint and its the main
reason why I didnt get the Avengers(Ruffalo) version of the Marvel Select Hulk.
The ankles are also hindered by the sculpting of the pants as wel but even with
these things it is a pretty poseable toy, even to the point of doing stuff one
wouldnt expect!

Of course, all we really care about is how he looks with his Proton Pack!
Luckily the detail on the pack looks beautiful! It has a mount for the hand
piece and is permanently attached to the pack by a tube! Its very cool!!

The hand piece is a little bit squishy and I found because of that it was a bit
of a chore to get onto Peters hands. He is of course able to hold it two handed,
which one would expect.

It also comes with an effect part which is a nice addition and it actually looks
OK. In the box its in two parts sadly you need the smaller part to attach to the
hand piece, so you dont get the option of having two lengths. To be honest
though, it wouldnt look right without being fairly long anyway.

Another part Peter comes with is a rather nice Glow in the dark Ghostbusters
logo. Judging by the way it has a peg on it, I suspect is is meant to be a stand
for Peter. It is a bit small though so hell probably have to have one foot off.
Oh well, at least it will stabilise Peter even more.

It doesnt glow all that impressively however. I am a sucker for GITD stuff
though. While this is a pretty well sculpted figure, I just dont find myself
being as excited as I thought I would be by it and I suspect that it is entirely
due to it being a dude in a jump suit of some sort. Sure the proton pack is ace,
the effect parts are cool, the face sculpt is pretty damn fine and even the
articulation is good (aside from the look of the elbows and hips), but it is
still just a dude in a baggy suit. Ill be keeping it for sure and maybe if I
bothered getting the other Ghostbusters in their suits it might increase the
coolness of the figure somewhat, but unless they become super cheap (unlikely
since they were Matty Collector only pieces) I doubt Id bother getting the
others, although Ray was my second favourite GB character (and I do love Dan
Akroyd as well ).Its a tough call really. One by itself looks a bit drab but is
a well done figure. Maybe I shouldve done what I did with the Ninja Turtles and
Kaizoku Rangers, and that was immediately hunt them all, in the thinking that if
one is crappy, they would look less crappy if I had the whole team. Mind you,
with the stupid release system that Mattel had set up for these guys, slow
postage and initial charges, as well as the high risk of the transaction being
cocked up and the fact that I bought Peter here before I was into the Kaizoku
rangers and the Nick TMNT, I would put it down to naivety. My final thoughts for
this toy are: Very well done toy, but get all of them, not just one.

[Toy] Never to be opened figures

Toy has posted a new item, 'Never to be opened figures'

San Diego Comic Con. Oh how you torture me. I saw this set planned for the SDCC
a month or so ago and was a happy little jo-jo and sourced one straight away
pleased with the thought of having a Legends Deapool for my collection. Its not
until much later that I realised that these arent Legends figures in the 6 inch
range, but the Marvel Universe figures in the 3.75inch range.Disappointment and
happiness then flew in all at once.On the minus side, I am still without a 6
inch Deadpool. On the plus side, I am not at all feeling bad about leaving these
guys in package.Hasbro, being the despotic company they are rarely package items
so that one can put them back in the package and make it look relatively like
new. This lot has worked well, since I already have a little Deadpool to play
with, I can now look at these guys and leave them in their boxes quite happily,
because with this set,Its ALL about the Packaging! This set cleverly comes in a
Taco van, as Deadpool loves tacos, not only that (and this is the reason why I
wanted this set) the figures themselves come in little taco themed blister
packs! Oh My!Its very cleverly done.

The outer carton looks like a Taco truck. There are lots of lovely touches on
this baby. Note the shadows under the truck and the shadow in the passenger
window, they coincide with the characters on the other side!!

You get most of the members of the Deadpool Corps, which are Deadpool from other
Dimensions. Included in this set are:
Deadpool
Lady Deadpool
KidPool
Champion of the Universe (ChampionPool)
Dogpool
Squirrelpool.
Noticeable by his absence is Headpool. Zombie Deadpool Aaaw. One thing that had
me a bit concerned though was this little patch of information on the bottom of
the box.Hmm, I hope this doesnt get distributed in Australia. I find it
incredibly odd that this is included on an item that is purely for the San Diego
Comic Convention, in San Diego, AMERICA. Especially since this has the SDCC logo
plastered on the front of the box.On the plus side though, this contains 6
figures, so at the Australian B$ Price of Twenty Bull$hit bucks for each figure,
itll cost at least $120, so I wont financially out of pocket. But still, odd to
see that printed on an item that seems incredibly unlikely to be sold anywhere
else.Enough about the outside of the box, lets have a look inside hey?The
figures sit in a tray and slide out of the back of the box and the tray has some
amusing blurb on the back and side.

Get the toys out of the tray and they come packaged in little cute taco styled
cardboard backings. Ha ha ha ha, which open up to show the figure. Woooo!
CLASSY!

Its very cute and nice to see that even though the taco print is the same for
each one, they have their name printed on it. Shame that to get to the figure
itself, you have to rip the crap out of the packet, as the plastic is glued on
to the card. Now for a closer look at the figures.First up, Deadpool! This one
looks exactly the same as the Universe release of Deadpool, except for the
floaties, which I really like. He does come with some really cool looking
weapons though. At first I got really excited thinking that the exposed mouth
mask was Headpool, but on closer inspection, it has teeth. If I remember
correctly, Headpool doesnt have any teeth, so its obviously a head so Deadpool
can eat his tacos. Still, a nice touch and a masked head is included as well. I
guess if you wanted too, you could paint the teeth black and have a Headpool.

Next on the list, Champion of the Universe, hereby referred to as
Championpool.Less weapons, blue skin, Deadpooly costume. Very nice and
appropriately larger in stature than Deadpool.

I must admit, I do kind of want to open this one

So I skip to the next, Lady Deadpool.

Nice big bazooka (the weapon, I am talking about the weapon) and some kind of
weird gun thing that looks a bit like a hairdryer. Interesting to see that Lady
Pool has a much simpler designed costume with a simple utility belt and braces
around the shoulders. I havent seen any comics with Lady Pool, but I do believe
her hair is meant to be blonde, which they messed up here with the caramel
colour on this one.

Tempted to open that one as well.Thats it for the action figures, the others are
just static figures.Next is KidpoolNicely sculpted, good logo and I like his
eyes and mask area. Proportions look accurate to how he was drawn. I was a
little annoyed to see that his laser sword was bent at the tip though

And finally, Dogpool and Squirrelpool. Again, these guys are static figures. Oh
there is also an inflatable duck-ring as well, which I have seen around Deadpool
in some pictures, obviously to go with his floaties. Squirrelpool looks really
good I think, its very cute that he has the mask as well as the swords on his
back. Dogpool is nicely detailed and the way he is positioned in the packet
looks like all his attention is on the Squirrel (cue Up movie reference here).

So there we have it. No figure reviews because as I said before, the small size
of these guys doesnt really interest me that much, but incredibly nice, funny
and relevant to the character style of packaging. Its nice that you can look at
the figures without having to open the box, but it wouldve been nicer if I could
have got to the toys without having to destroy their cards. But oh well, no
great loss in my opinion. I have the general release of Deadpool and while a fun
little toy, with a surprising amount of articulated joints, I dont feel like I
am missing out on much by not opening these guys up. I guess theyll probably
make it to general release one way or another, but even then I doubt Id go for
them. A Deadpool Corps Legends set however would be an entirely different kettle
of fish. However, even though I have this set and I know Deadpool like
Chimichangas and tacos and stuff, I still dont understand Tacos

[Toy] *Review* 3A WWR EMGY Dropcloth 1.5

Toy has posted a new item, '*Review* 3A WWR EMGY Dropcloth 1.5'

INTRO
ThreeA, to me, has always been about robots. Even now, with all their Tomorrow
Kings, Tommy Mission, Zombs and pointy chested, long legged vixens, big ol rusty
robots are the first thing that pops into my head whenever the toy company comes
up. It was in fact a random image of a WWRp Dirty Deeds Bertie that first caught
my attention and led me, cash clinched in hand, to ThreeAs doorstep. A few
purchases under my belt later, still wide-eyed and bushy tailed as one tends to
be when their toe is first dipped into ThreeA waters, I set out with the
seemingly obtainable goal to get one of each kind of bot in my collection. At
first, I was keeping to the smaller, more obtainable bots thinking the larger
bot were just too expensive for someone like me who planned to only be a casual
collector with a tidy, reasonable collection. Ha! If I only knew then what I
know now.
A month or so into my earnest collecting, I accidentally purchased a incredibly
well priced, WWR Dropcloth Slaughterhouse. At the time, I didnt have a solid
understanding of the various labels 3A tossed on their various lines, so the
lack of the letter p generally tagged on the end of the WWR,escapedmy notice.
Ifoolishly believed it to be another 1/12th bot given the reasonable cost.
Foolishly or not, when the dual hatchet wielding, 1/6 bot arrived on my
doorstep, I was thrilled. While a WWRp Bertie reeled me in, it was definitely a
WWR Droppie that truly sunk its hooks in. Dropcloths were and still are my
favorite robots from ThreeAs arsenal of cool toys. Theyre just so pose-able and
fun to play around with. Also, their reasonable scale makes them easy to collect
and display with a variety of other sized figures. Ive rotated out, bought and
sold quite a bit of my collection over the years for one reason or another, but
I have one bot that is securely locked into my if there was a house fire, grab
that mental category, the WWR EMGY Dropcloth.
In my opinion, hes simply the coolest looking bot I own, standing front and
center on my shelf.
The EMGY colorway is understandably popular. In many cases, its rarity seems to
be the driving point. But for me, its the stark use of rusty yellow paired with
dark black, silver and most importantly, red. Since the first EMGY WWRp bertie
(speaking of rare), the EGMY color-way has gone through various changes. Newer
bots, like Caesar and particularly Armstrong skipped the red accents altogether.
It might seem like such a small thing, but in my opinion, its absence caused the
newer bots to come out looking a lot less exciting than the original. Even the
EMGY grunt, which I think is just a sick figure to have, lacks basically any
other color accents at all, leaving him with a color scheme an interior designer
might refer to as, the dirty banana.
When ThreeA teased us with the first Dropcloth follow up back at SDCC 2012, the
Dropcloth 1.5, I was pretty excited. When it wasannouncedthat the EMGY color-way
would be among the first available, I was even more excited. Once I saw that the
paint app would be a return to EMGY glory days (ie: reds, blacks and silvers) I
may have fist pumped the air, shouted, YEAH BABY! and held that pose for moment,
freeze frame style, in true 80s tradition.
ThreeA once again made the EMGY drop a random rare drop, despite its popularity.
On the plus side, it was a rare drop seemingly far more obtainable than any
other Ive experienced. In fact, the first time I logged onto bambaland during
the sale (which featured Peaceday as the regular drop) I saw EGMY up and
purchased him with little fuss. Almost every other time I checked the site, he
was still there. I like to think that whoever wanted him at the time had a
pretty good opportunity to snag him.
With my personal EMGY history deets out of the way, I am thrilled to finally
have EMGY 1.5 in my hands. Keep reading to see how well I think he stacks up to
the OG.
Here we go..
In a hurry? Already tired of words? Check out the video review on our new
YouTube channel!

PACKAGING

Ah yes. Im happy to report that we have some beautiful, Ashely Wood art taking
up the majority of the front side of the packaging. On the back and side you can
see Brent Ashes (the lead technical designer for 3A) handy work. Its a well
conceived, nice looking design that embraces and combines 3as old and new
package art styles andultimatelylooks pretty darn handsome on the shelf.
Golf clap, fellahs.
A quirky, cool story is on the back bottom panel discussing the bloody misuse of
the EMGY 1.5 bots during a Peaceday parade.. calling back to the original
(awesome) story, to get your imaginationjuicesflowing. One can only hope well
see a full comic or a follow up to the WWR books someday to really flesh this
world out.
You also get a cool weaponload outdiagram that lets you know clearly whats
standard and secondary. Seeing that had me lost in thought of just how coolitd
be to play a WWR RTS or FPS game.. oh the fun that could be had. (ThreeA, make
it happen.)

WHATS INCLUDED

As is becoming more and more the case with WWR releases, EMGY comes LOADED
withaccessories. One thing thatimmediatelystands out is that all the gear is
brand new and unique to the Dropcloth 1.5 line. The standard load-out includes
dual (holstered) pistols, a submachine gun, a close-quarters shotgun and a
really cool cleaver-esque knife. Unique to ol EMGY is the ever cool strapped
riot baton (not seen since the OG EMGY Dropcloth) and of course, theinfamousriot
shield.

Suffice to say, you have a LOT of options to play around with.
Man, I love EMGY.
THE BREAKDOWN

Man, that toxic smell. Some love it, some hate it. I find a sense of nostalgia
in it, but dude, EMGY was loaded with it when I unpacked him. Toe to toe with
Stinkor from MOTU in odoriferousness. From 3As factories to my front door. Heres
hoping theres some chemical safety regulations at play.. otherwise, in my small
office littered with 3A toys,health-wise, Im screwed.
So first impression, he looks.. friendly? Not what I expected to think right out
the box. Those two eyes between the popped metal collar, make him look almost
cute in a way. Like, dangerous.. but friendly. In a way, it makes sense. If
these are designed to interact with humans, the only point of the eyes is to
humanize them and make us fleshys feel more comfortable. Its definitely a
different vibe than I get from my OG EMGY Droppy.

So lemme check out this paint job. Mmhmm.. MmHmm.I think it looks good great
even. The weathering is looking quite nice. Its something that 3A is known for
of course. Upon closer inspection and when compared to my OG Dropcloth, theres
quite a few apparent differences. Hes a LOT more orange, but you can tell theres
more layers at work here. The OG is a bright yellow, with its key weathering
element being basically rusty sponge marks applied liberally all over the place.
A few inky drips and some dark edge work and hes done. The new 1.5 has what
appears to be 3 base layers, a dark steel layer, and bright yellow (similar to
the OG) followed by thedominantburnt orange layer. Theres still sponge marks,
though not as heavy as before, coupled with several cross-hatch like brush marks
all over. These are very apparent on his legs, which are almost brown from the
amount of heavy weathering.

Some fans may be turned off by the fact that the yellow/orange of the 1.5 doesnt
match the yellow of.. well, ANY of the other EMGY bots, but its hard to argue
that on his own, he looks really nice. If the 1.5 is an update, then it makes
some sense that 3A would attempt to try new and improved methods with their
paint application. Whether it looks better or not is going to becompletelyup to
the individual.Even if the off-yellow throws you the red and silver accents
should bring you back in. They look ever bit as cool as youd want them to and
give us thelegitimateEMGY color scheme weve been wanting since the first time we
saw it.

Articulation is vastly improved on the 1.5 in almost everyconceivablearea.
Double joints at the neck and shoulders allow just a bit more wiggle room.
Droppies feet have two hinges in them to assist in making your Hey, Im walking
here! pose that much more believable. The old thumb joint is gone and in its
place is a much more forgiving ball joint. Its not new as its been seen on a few
other bots already, but its an update from the original Dropcloths.

On both his forearms, we have two ultra-cool shield. Each shield can also
beswiveledaround to allow for various load-out and pose options. Basically, if
theyre in your way, you can move them. Id also like to mention how much I like
the dark paint on the shields, they feature some of the best weathering on the
entire bot.

Probably the biggest update to ol droppy is his double-jointed elbows. Its a
little thing, but seems to make a pretty big difference in the sort of poses
youre able to get out of him thanks to their inclusion. Its a first for a 3A bot
and makes the range of the already highly articulated Dropcloth, that much more
extensive.

The legs on the 1.5 seem to lack any noticeable difference from those of their
older brothers. Whats there is pretty great already, but I was hoping the area
where the leg connected to the hip would have been refined a little bit to allow
for a wider stance.

If there was one thing that carried over from the original Dropcloths that I
really, REALLY wish 3A would have altered.. its the way the bags attach. While
some of the dangling ones are nicely attached by (black!) plastic clips, the
sacks on his hips have a thin strap that simply feed down through some (very)
snug loops sewn into the hip of his (her?) skirt. Theyll stay put probably 99%
of the time, but theres nothing really securing them. The pain comes when one
slips out why youre posing him, or heck, removing a pistol from its holster. You
literally need a tool(s) to feed the strap back down through the wee loops. On
some of my previous Dropcloths, the straps were long enough that I could twist
and tie them together to fastened them better, no such luck this time around.
Its a small annoyance thats unique to Dropcloths and has bugged me since
practically day one of collecting 3A.. looks like itll continue to do so.

All the accessories look pretty fantastic and are a ton of fun to mix and match
for your setup. Ive heard some complain about the size of the shotgun, but to me
it works well. It basically looks like something a SWAT team would use in close
quarters combat. Sawed off with a grip to help with the recoil.

The new knife, as I mentioned earlier, is something completely new, looking more
like a cleaver than and combat knife. I really like it. If a Slaughterhouse 1.5
is released however, 3A will need to do something to make him stand out more
since cleavers are kinda his thing.

Theres also the classic EMGY Droppy baton. Im pretty sure its the exact same one
the OG EMGY had, which is a good thing!

You also have a sub-machine gun and some dual pistols at your disposal. I stated
earlier that all the weapons were unique and new to 1.5, but the pistols are
actually the same ones weve come to know and love from the OG Dropcloths. If it
aint broke..

The accessory thats probably gotten the most press has been EMGYs shield. A
favorite accessory for collectors, many weredisappointedwhen photos of the new
shield started to pop up. It seems 3A couldnt leave well enough alone and
decided to redesign/paint the whole thing.

My first reaction to the photos was the same as a lot of other peoples, Oh no!
What have they done? It just didnt look very good. Blotchy yellow paint
surrounded by ugly brown smears. A EMGY icon that was seemingly drawn on by a 4
year old. I definitely got why people were getting upset and I found myself
siding with the throng of pitchfork wielders.
But then I saw another picture that seemingly displayed a sense of depth and
even realism, causing me to question my first take. While waiting on mine to
arrive, Ive seen peoples posted pictures that make the shield look pretty darn
great, and others that make it look like it was painted with crayons and baby
feces. I decided to reserve my judgement and keep an open mind until I had it in
hand.

So finally in hand and out of the box, sitting in front of me I can with all
honesty say Huh.
It aint bad. In fact, Id probably say its more realistic than the old shields.
Theres depth to it, much like the paint on the EMGY himself, and more layers
than youd expect just looking at the photos. The brown is actually
verymetallicand looks like good, worn out, rusty metal. The paint that appeared
so soft and smudgy to me in photos online, actually makes good visual sense up
close. Its a nice, realistic effect.
So its more realistic, but is it better?

In the end, Ill be placing this guy up with my other EMGY crew, all of who are
wielding similarly painted and weathered shields. Right now, it looks
harmonious, as most want their crew or colorway of choice to look, but the new
shield is going to stick out like a sore thumb.
Even without that concern, standing on its own, I think where I find real issue
derives from exactly what I was saying earlier.. up close, it looks realistic,
up close, you can see the depth, up close, you can tell theres some great
techniques at work. However, take a few steps away, all you can see is a
strange, bold and distracting pattern that doesnt look or feel like anything
else in your collection. From three feet away, It reads more like a bad camo
pattern, than rust and chipped paint.
In short, where the paint application has gained technique and possibly
sophistication, it sorely lacks any harmony and visual
congruence.Particularlywhen paired with any of your other EMGY, shield-bearing,
figures.

FINAL WORD

I gotta say, Im incredibly happy with how the EMGY Dropcloth 1.5 came out. I
think 3A knocked it out of the park in the majority of its innovations and
improvements from the original. Its hard to compare new to old, because the OG
has such a special place in my toy collecting heart, but toy to toy, the 1.5 is
probably a better toy. Whatever that means.
I feel like the Dropcloth 1.5 is a good example of how ThreeA is working to
improve and advance everything theyre doing production-wise. Tweaked and
improved articulation, a more detailed and layered paint application and a
butt-ton of weapons to fiddle with. It may not thrill everyone that the paint
isnt the exact same or a perfect match with the rest of their EMGY crew, but I
almost see it as a necessary evil in the process. Itll be interesting to see how
other well known color-ways will fair, if and when theyre released in the
future.

The shield is just something that youll have to decide how you feel about it
yourself. I know some will love it from the moment they grip it in their eager,
balmy hands. Ive read recent comments from some people who were adamantly and
vocally against the new paint work, only to decide they liked it MORE than the
old version once they had it in-hand. Of course others stand by their opinion
that itll only be fit for display once its repainted the right way. Until then,
it shall remain in the confines of its packaging, never to feel the sun on its
blotchy yellow and brown skin.

Im not exactly sure how Ill handle mine just yet. I know for sure I wont be
leaving it in the box like some uselessor unloved accessory. One of my favorite
things about this guy is just how many different poses and combinations are
possible with him. The shield alone gives you quite a few! In the long run, I
may not display mine front and center along side my current EMGY setup, but I
think Im going to figure out a way to strap it to his back, ala Captain America
or something.

All in all, I think ThreeA did a top-notch job with the EMGY Dropcloth 1.5. Its
their most articulated and pose-able bot yet. Hes also loaded up with more
unique accessories than any previous ThreeA figure to date.
For those like me who started collecting ThreeA around the same time the
original Dropcloths came out, I think the 1.5 heralds back to those days. It
should give you that nostalgic tug you were hoping for, while still delivering
something fresh. For those who are just starting to get into ThreeA and the 1.5
is the first bot in your collection.. oh the slippery slope youve stumbled upon,
my friends.
Give your wallet my condolences.

PROS:

A very solid and worthy upgrade to one of the most outstanding toy robots ThreeA
has to offer
Nice weathering and paint application
Tons of accessories to mess with!
Great enhanced articulation over the previous version

CONS:

I think the shield paint work is pretty good, but its not at all cohesive with
the rest of the figure which causes it to stick out like a sore thumb on the
shelf
While the paint application itself is great on Droppy 1.5, the fact he favors
orange more than the traditional yellow of previous EMGY figs will bother some
collectors.
A few missed opportunities for detail work (ie: EMGYs eyes are blank, where
Peacedays were painted and some areas of cloth are untouched by weathering)

[Toy] Mars Attack!

Toy has posted a new item, 'Mars Attack!'

A little something different for today...the Martian from Mars Attack by
Mezco!I've never watched the movie and don't know anything about this character
apart from the fact that it's a martian. But I loved the aesthetics of this ever
since I saw it so ...

[Toy] F-15・ACTV Active Eagle

Toy has posted a new item, 'F-15・ACTV Active Eagle'

Review by VF5SS
To this date the Volks's A3 line has the most extensive range of Muv-Luv
merchandise. It has covered all the major Tactical Surface Fighter designs and
just about every variant thereof. While some appear quite frequently on the
aftermarket for reasonable prices, others pop up once in a BETA infested moon
and command exorbitant amounts of yen. For whatever reason, the F-15ACTV Active
Eagle tended to run at least the equivalent to $110 USD. When I saw a lonely
used one Mandarake for just 2,500 yen (about $25), I quickly scooped it up. So
how does this rare bird fare? Let's find out.

One of Argos Test Flight's Active Eagles blasts through the air while trying to
avoid an international incident during the third episode of Total Eclipse.

Please check out my video review.

The F-15ACTV Active Eagle was the tenth normal retail release in Volks's A3 line
and hails from the Muv-Luv Alternative spinoff: Total Eclipse. Interestingly
enough I have heard the A3 line was tied in heavily with Total Eclipse as the
latter was conceived as a way to create more Tactical Surface Fighters that
could be made into action figures. In universe, the Active Eagle is described as
a test bed for upgrading all F-15's through the use of more powerful jump units
and extra thrusters all over.

Naturally this figure shares a great number of components with the Strike Eagle
as both were released the same year. The name and function of the Active Eagle
is derived from its real life namesake, the F-15 ACTIVE. Both were technology
demonstrators that aimed to show how an existing air frame can stay on the
cutting edge without the need of a whole new machine. Like the regular Strike
Eagle, the Active Eagle figure stands about 6 inches tall is made mostly out of
thick PVC plastic.

The Active Eagle is absolutely brimming with extra engine nozzles for increased
performance.

In addition to the upgraded jump units attached to its waist, the Active Eagle
sports a pair of additional boosters that take the place of the usual mount
pylons.

Even with the extra equipment, the Active Eagle is no touchier than most A3
figures when it comes to balancing. It helps that the jump units only stick out
a fairly gentle angle.

The jump units feature an interesting gimmick in where the wings can be swapped
out with a pair that feature additional fuel tanks. It's a nice little touch for
airplane enthusiasts to show how all that extra power commands a powerful
thirst.

Even without the additional engines, the base Active Eagle still sports a number
of new parts such as the large arm mounted sensors and a some calf doohickeys.

Like many A3 figures, you get a pair of fill in parts for the knee joints that
completely impedes their movement in the name of line art fidelity. Again I am
not a TSF knee fetishist so I usually just leave these in the box.

The upper body features some extensive remolding from the Strike Eagle as the
torso sports additional detailing with both the shoulder pads and head being
completely new. The new head is a welcome upgrade in terms of articulation and
it can much more easily look to the left or right even when the additional back
boosters are attached. The beefy thrust vectoring engines in the shoulders are a
nod to the modified engines seen on the real F-15 ACTIVE. These new shoulders do
retain the moving flaps that angle up when the bicep is rotated. Also note that
the skirt armor even have additional orange colored sensors. Even the
nosecone-like codpiece has more detailing.

Aside form the head, the Active Eagle's articulation is largely the same as the
Strike Eagle's. The only other major improvement is how the open ended ankle
guards let the Active Eagle do a little more stretching before battle. With the
toes pointing forward like that, the whole leg kind of look like a dragon with a
single green eye.

In terms of accessories, the Active Eagle is a "what you see is what you get"
kind of figure. With the space for mount pylons being allocated to the
additional boosters, you only get a pair of guns for its main armament with the
usual American close combat weapons consisting of a pair of knives. Rounding
things out is a pair of splayed hands and fists.

You also get a set of uncut decals. These are identical to the set that comes
with the Strike Eagle. They are clear sticky type markings.

As an action figure, the Active Eagle is a fairly competent one. The A-Lock
joints provide a good range of motion with the stability of ratcheted clicks. As
the joints are limited to a certain number of clicks in any direction, finding
the right position for a good pose is key.

Despite coming from a high end doll and garage kit maker, A3 figures have the
design sense of a retail level collector's toy. They're not exactly Robot
Damashii level, more like upscale Revoltechs.

The aircraft gray coloring on the Active Eagle strengthens its connection with
the real life warplanes that inspired Tactical Surface Fighters. Like the Strike
Eagle, the paint is a little thick and rough in places with a few of the small
moving flaps suffering from some paint gluing. Fortunately I have a friend who
is a master modeler to help fix a minor break on one of the skirt armor's
movable flaps. Although I think he may have sacrificed a pigeon to get the part
back to me.

Like most TSF's, the Active Eagle looks quite intimidating.

While the knives are good and straight, the big sensors on the arms tend to bend
due to the softness of the PVC.

Thanks to its movable skirts, the Active Eagle can achieve a decent kneeling
pose.

With a strong display stand such as a Yamato Might Block base, the Active Eagle
can take flight. It can be hard to find good place to mount these guys in a
stand as their inherent back heaviness makes them want to lean back.

Overall the Active Eagle is simply a more elaborate looking version of the
regular Strike Eagle. As an early entry in the A3 line, it is a competent action
figure that is especially fun for Muv-Luv fans. It doesn't quite have the fit
and finish of later A3 figures like the F-4J Kai Zuikaku or the F-16 Fighting
Falcon but is a good presentation of the Active Eagle. For the lack of any other
merchandise of this design, it fills the niche with workmanlike execution. I
wouldn't pay above its MSRP for it so try to find a good deal on places like
Mandarake or Yahoo Japan auctions.

[Toy] Michael Ansara, Voice Actor of Mr. Freeze on Batman Animated Series, Dies at 91

Toy has posted a new item, 'Michael Ansara, Voice Actor of Mr. Freeze on Batman
Animated Series, Dies at 91'

I'm sorry I have some bad news to share but I think it's important to mention
that the Actor, Michael Ansara, passed away a few days ago. He was 91 years old.
He was best known for playing the Klingon leader Kang,on the original 1960's
Star Trek TV Series. But, he has done countless movies and other TV appearances
as well. I didn't know this, but for a short time, he was married to Barbara
Eden (of "I Dream of Jeanie" fame).Michael Ansara died last Wednesday at his
home in Calabasas, California. He was born in a small village in Syria, arriving
in the United States with his American parents at the age of two. He caught the
"acting bug" early in life and went on to appear on "The Untouchables," "Alfred
Hitchcock Presents," "Perry Mason, "Lost in Space," "Hawaii 5-0," "Murder She
Wrote," "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century" and his ex-wife's show, "I Dream of
Jeannie."But, Michael Ansara will always be remembered by Batman Fans as the
voice of Mr. Freeze on the classic TV cartoon, Batman: The Animated Series.I
always loved that character, and besides having a really great graphic design
"look", the voice was really the best thing about him, total perfection. if you
would like to remember this please just check out the Tribute Music Video down
below. He was GREAT!R. I. P.Mr. Michael Ansara, you will be missed.

[Toy] Moto Bot 6x6

Toy has posted a new item, 'Moto Bot 6x6'

Review by VF5SS
Any child walking around a pharmacy in the late 80's to early 90's most likely
encountered the ubiquitous Moto Bots in some form or another. Maybe they came in
a two-pack or maybe they sported day glow colors, but those sub-Gobots level
machines could be admired for staying simple and playable when every other toy
line was trying to reinvent itself with even gaudier shades of neon.
Both JoshB and myself have an odd fascination with off-brand robot toys. During
one CollectionDX show he brought out a Moto Bot I had never seen before, which
he would later pass on to me. I grew up with Moto Bots and still have a bunch
from my childhood.

Since none of these guys have names per se, I am simply going to refer to him by
what the stickers on his vehicle mode say: 6x6. This chunky guy is one of the
burliest looking Moto Bots I have ever encountered. 6x6 has seen better days but
is still in good working condition. Like most Moto Bots, his chest is made from
diecast metal and even has transparent windows. The simple red and black stripes
compliment his "IBM PC" gray colored body.

Even as a kid I couldn't help but see the connection between a Moto Bot's simple
blocky face and the design of certain Gobots like Fly Trap and Geeper Creeper.
Among his peers, 6x6 looks much more regal with a head crest that features a
small embossed "T".

All Moto Bots possess the same pullback motor gimmick. While most of them use
the same motor with vehicle appropriate tires, 6x6 has a beefier unit designed
to go with his larger body.

Moto Bots were manufactured by a company called MC Toys. Since most of these
figures say "Made in Macau" I wonder if that's what the "MC" part refers to.

6x6 really stands out among my old Moto Bots. They all proudly display their
minimal articulation that really emphasizes their simple mechanical nature.
After all, a robot really only needs a pair of menacing outstretch arms to
conquer the world.

I like to think of 6x6 as the Moto Bot leader who commands his troops to roll in
battle against the higher priced forces of evil.

6x6's transformation is a little bit more involved than the usual Moto Bot fare.
Parts of his legs actually slide out and then pivot 180 degrees to form the
truck bed of his vehicle mode. The wheels on his arms flip around to the right
orientation while his head retracts and is covered up by a hefty off roading
bumper.

The resulting 6x6 vehicle is very compact yet still pretty imposing. The extra
stripe detailing in the rear is now visible and looks appropriately 80's.

You don't wanna mess with this guy once he's been pull backed.

Any vehicle with more than four wheels always seemed really fascinating to kids.
It's just strange and unusual enough without being wholly unrealistic.

The only thing my 6x6 is missing is the plug in roll bar that fit into the holes
in the truck bed. A lot of Moto Bots had parts that had to be removed for robot
mode and would usually get misplayed or broken.

Once again 6x6 looks large and in charge. He'll keep everyone in line,
especially that neon jeep guy. I tell ya that neon jeep guy is nothing but
trouble.

Moto Bots represent one of the least glamorous parts of robot toy heritage, but
still proudly rolled on as a notable entry in their history. Nowadays their role
as cheap, affordable transforming robots has been supplanted by the bigger
lines. Maybe someday I'll get back into collecting these guys as they're still
kicking around the second hand market for reasonable prices.
