Looking for a 2 bdrm before September 1st!!

Hey there!

My husband and I currently live in Ditmas park and love it, but are looking to have a little more room- would LOVE a 2 bedroom floor of a house (a yard space would only make it better), but are open to great 2 bedroom apartments as well. We've had friends in  the neighborhood find amazing places, but almost always by word of mouth, so we are hoping folks within this community blog may have a heads up! Our current lease runs out August 31st, but we are willing to make it work if we find the ideal place sooner than that. I work in the neighborhood, Andy works in the LES and we are very responsible/clean tenants. If you know of a space, we would love to know about it!!

Thanks,
Holly

Shavuot Program - Speakers 6/4/11 8 PM 83 Marlborough Rd, corner Church

Please Forward:
Saturday June 4, 2011 83 Marlborough Rd

Tikkun L'eil Shavuot  8:00 PM to midnight

A full evening of discussion and learning in preparation for Shavuot

This year:

When Identities Collide:

Exploring pieces of our selves that don't seem to match

Shavuot celebrates the giving of the Torah to the Israelites at Mt. Sinai, essentially the moment when they become Jews. But Jewishness was not their only identity—they were also former slaves, and we see in the Torah the way they struggle between these identities. We, too, sometimes struggle with different aspects of our identities, and that is what we will explore.

We will begin with havdallah, separating the sacred Shabbat from the everyday week, then delve into issues of identity.

Speakers will include:

Anthropologist Henry Goldschmidt on the weirdness of Jewish identity

Rabbi Heidi Hoover on being a convert with a German Christian heritage

Loren Levinson on having to choose the faith already given

And more!

$10 for members, $15 for non-members.

Date and time: Saturday, June 4, 8:00 PM to midnight

Location: Temple Beth Emeth, 83 Marlborough Rd., in the function room (downstairs)

Refreshments will be provided.

RSVPs and questions: call the temple at (718) 282-1596, or email templebeth83@aol.com

$517 (all utilities included) room 2 blocks from the park!

Hi!

We have a room available for June 1st just a few blocks from the southern end of Prospect Park and 4 blocks from the Church Avenue Q/B stop. The neighborhood is beautiful, with old Victorian houses and mansions, tree-lined streets, and several great new restaurants, bars, and organic food stores opening up just a 10-minute walk away...$517 rent includes all utilities, internet, and a shared netflix account, plus a $900 deposit you'll get back when you leave.

The room is medium sized, about 11 x 10, with 3 windows allowing quite a bit of light. We are 2 male musicians and a female who's studying acupuncture. The 2 of us who are musicians practice instruments individually during the day, but never after 9 pm. We're all friendly and laid-back. We're not strict about keeping the place spotless, but we need someone who does their dishes after they eat and keeps the kitchen generally clean.

Please tell us something about yourself in your reply, thanks!

We live in the neighborhood and are looking for someone to install two window air conditioners very securely -- last year, they were not installed tightly enough, we discovered, and so rattled loudly through much of the summer.  In addition, we need those two units plus an additional one that stayed in the window cleaned.

Looking for space to rent for evening and/or weekend daytime sewing classes?

Hi folks,  I'm thinking about holding some low-cost sewing classes for the community this summer.  Anyone have a space that they rent out, or suggestions for people I should contact?  So far I've got Latin Fever and Flatbush-Tomkins Congregational Church basement to look into.

All I'll need is an outlet that can handle a power strip, and room enough for one standard fold-up table (classes will be capped at 6 students).  I'd need the space for about 3 hours total, and would be interested in weekday evenings, weekend day-time, or both.  Ideally this could be a weekly or biweekly class.

Thanks for your help.  You can contact me at motozulli@gmail.com.

About Annie:

Annie Lynch is a professional vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, performer, recording artist, and educator
from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. She has been studying voice formally since she was nine years old, and
guitar since she was twelve. Annie began writing music at the age of thirteen, and performing in the
Greater Boston Area Acoustic Music Scene shortly there after. In the fall of 2008, she graduated from
Berklee College of Music in Boston with a Bachelor of Music. Her focus was on Voice and World Music.
Her musical experiences have ranged from bluegrass jams in Nashville to a month of intensive studies of
traditional West African music in Ghana, West Africa. She leads the internationally touring Americana
group, Annie and The Beekeepers, as well as her own solo project, and has performed at festivals such as
South By South West, Philadelphia Folk Festival, Boston Folk Festival, England's End of the Road,
NYC's CMJ, Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion, and more.

Annie has been teaching guitar and voice lessons for over six years to students of all experience levels
and walks of life, ages four to seventy six. Additionally, she has experience teaching group music classes to
children, ages birth through five, in a daycare setting and through Music for Aardvarks. Annie offers a
nurturing, individual-based approach to teaching, while encouraging all students to experiment with
genre and explore some fundamental Ear Training and Music Theory as a part of their musical practice.
