Looking for a room/studio in Ditmas Park

My name is Kristy, and I'm a 30-year-old herbalist, doula, and editor-by-day looking for a new home in Ditmas Park.

Looking for a share or my own studio that's about $600-950/month for at least a year. Should have lots of light for me and my houseplants, a tub nice enough to take a bath in, and a spacious kitchen with a good amount of storage for my herbal medicine and food making. If a share, I'm hoping to find a place where I can add some of my stuff to/feel comfortable using common areas; not have to pay for cable since I don't watch TV but need a land line that I'm happy to pay for; and with kind, considerate, and like-minded roommates. I'm clean and respectful of common areas and try to live from a place of love and understanding. I can provide references as well as any income verifications needed.

To learn more about me and my health and healing interests/work, visit my sorely-in-need-of-a-big-update site: www.onedegreefromearth.com. :)

Please contact me at kristybredin@yahoo.com or 718-606-1536 if you know of any appropriate living situations in the neighborhood Thanks!

Torah Study, Saturday 10 am @ 83 Marlborough Road, corner Church

Dear Torah Scholars,

This Saturday at
10 am we resume our study of the weekly Torah
portion. If possible, please read the Torah portion beforehand (but as
always, if you don't have a chance, come anyway). This week's Torah
portion is Bereishit, Genesis 1:1 to 6:8.   If you don't have access
to a Bible, you can find a Hebrew-English or just English Bible here:
http://www.mechon-mamre.org/p/pt/pt0.htm.

If you'd like to read any commentaries, there are many online, for
example, here:
http://urj.org/learning/torah

Have a bagel and join in our always-lively discussion as we immerse
ourselves in the living waters of Torah, adding our voices and
thoughts to those of Jewish tradition.

I look forward to learning with you!

IKEA Lerberg CD/DVD Shelves

I have 7 of these shelves available, each holding 80 CD's a piece. I think they're one of the best things IKEA has for sale, being simple and efficient in design, and durable as they're all metal. I'd still use them, but our new place has thin plaster walls, and I'm nervous about hanging too many wall shelves.

I'd like to find them a new home, as they've served me very well, so drop me a line.

I'm happy to let all 7 go for 30 bucks.

Here's a link, in case the pic doesn't show up.

2 bedroom Flatbush Apartment for Rent

Totally great 2-bedroom apartment in the not so far reaches of Flatbush/East Flatbush. The apartment is 950 square feet NOT including the ROOF DECK that is about 120 square feet.

This apartment is super clean, recently renovated, 5 rooms in total. It is immaculate, bright, clever, interesting, charming, and quiet. It is close to Brooklyn College, Flatbush Junction, tons of shopping, it is at the Newkirk 2 and 5 train stop. Brooklyn College offers community residents membership to its gym and pool for a great price, the B and Q train are a short mile walk and happening Cortelyou St is a hop, skip and a jump away at 1.5 miles.  At $1350 per month including cooking gas, water, heat, ceiling fans, an air conditioner, and storage, it's a bargain!

The apartment is on the second floor of a privately owned house, the owners live downstairs. It is situated on a corner so it gets light from 3 directions; the house is south facing so it gets all the best light. The deck is private and huge, great for BBQ's and possibly a hammock! There is a beautiful living room with bay windows, which has a small alcove off of it, which would make a great office. The dining room has a coffered ceiling with a gorgeous stained glass window. It also has a great plate shelf that runs the perimeter of the room: such a beautiful detail! Both the front living room and the dining room have refinished parquet floors and enviable wood molding details. There are 2 large closets in the hallway; one has the ladder to the roof. The carpet in the hallway is brand new. Next to the kitchen in the hallway is an old dumbwaiter turned china cabinet. Outside the front door, in the hallway is a large area perfect for bike storage or just a general dumping spot for extra stuff. The kitchen is galley style, small but uses the space wisely. The tile floor, the counter, and the appliances are brand new. The ceiling fixtures are new in all rooms; the living room and bedroom both have new ceiling fans. The smaller of the two bedrooms is actually not very small, could easily fit a queen-sized bed and has a deep closet. The larger bedroom is farthest back from the front, has a new ceiling fan and gets tons of light, also with a perfectly fine closet, it could fit a king sized bed.

The bathroom is……funky; I guess you could call it. Looks as if it was installed in 1965, the door closed to the bathroom and it never used for all these years. It really is immaculate; it's just all GREEN. The floor, the walls, the toilet, the sink, it's all green! Takes a special taste in interior design to appreciate it. Hoping to find that person who will appreciate it because we think it's great!

Looking for people to rent the apartment that have a liberal attitude, that have a low-key style. Pets are encouraged, just not strange exotics. Non-smokers of cigarettes are preferred. We, the owners, are cool and creative. We are quiet and private, helpful and smart, hoping to accommodate just the right tenants.

Email with your number to set up an appointment. jabklyn at verizon dot net

Available immediately. One year lease singing required. Must have full time job and 2 months security.

Electricity is additional, over and above the rent of $1350. Lower rent is considered for a single person.

Looking for a 2 bdrm apt. in Ditmas

Hello Landlords and Householders!

My wife and I are looking to move from Flatbush to Ditmas.  We'd love to live in an apartment in a house, we're dreaming of trees and gardens and quiet streets... the parts of life that are missing from our current truck route apartment building.  We are looking for a 2 bed room, and can pay $1400-1500.  I am a jack of all trades and have worked as a handyman for a landlord in the past, so If you are looking for a super type arrangement, that could work as well.  I've done my fair share of carpentry, painting, minor electrical, minor plumbing, jacking up foundations, etc.  (I'm from Maine originally)   I'm a teaching artist, and venetian plasterer, and puppeteer my wife works for random house as an editor.

Looking forward to meeting you,

Rabbit Hole Ensemble Presents...The Tragic Story of Doctor Frankenstein

Good Day,

Award-winning, innovative theatre company Rabbit Hole Ensemble has set their sights on Brooklyn. The company is celebrating their fifth anniversary with a year-long, Brooklyn-based exploration of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. The piece -- the first installment of which will premiere at Brooklyn Arts Exchange in Park Slope on October 28th -- will be a gender-bending horror (in the old-fashioned, creepy sense of the word) that casts Dr. Frankenstein as a Columbia University coed, and her monster as a Linda Blair-esque young girl. The production will utilize Rabbit Hole's signature minimalism and physical theatre techniques to create the terrifying story. This is the company's second horror-theatre project, following up on 2008's award-winning The Night of Nosferatu. As part of Rabbit Hole's Theatre for Communities initiative, free tickets of the show will be provided to area non-profits.

Rabbit Hole Ensemble, a recent up-and-comer in off off-Broadway, has seven New York Innovative Theatre Award nominations, and two awards, to its name -- and has received glowing press notices, including accolades from The New York Times and The Village Voice, among many others. Although the company has brought free performances to low-income audiences and community organizations in Brooklyn for the past three years, this coming season will be the first one produced exclusively in the company's home borough.

Rabbit Hole Ensemble is the latest high quality theatre company to begin producing solely in Brooklyn, joining a vibrant cultural landscape that includes theatre companies and presenting organizations such as Theatre for a New Audience, Irondale Ensemble, and the Brick Theatre. The company believes the borough is an ideal home from which to further Rabbit Hole's commitment to building community through theatre.

"We have been wanting to connect with our audiences in a deeper way, and to contribute in tangible ways to our home neighborhoods," Artistic Director Edward Elefterion said. "We realized that Brooklyn is the perfect place to do that."

Please read below for further details on The Tragic Story of Doctor Frankenstein, and contact me if you are interested in interviewing the creators and writing a feature on the piece.  We look forward to seeing you at the show!

Best,

James Gerontzos

Rabbit Hole Ensemble Presents

"THE TRAGIC STORY OF DOCTOR FRANKENSTEIN"

October 28th-November 13th; Thurs-Sat at 8pm

At Brooklyn Arts Exchange

RABBIT HOLE ENSEMBLE, lauded as "riveting" by The Village Voice, is pleased to announce the world premiere of THE TRAGIC STORY OF DOCTOR FRANKENSTEIN written by Resident Playwright/NYITA* nominee Stanton Wood, and directed by Rabbit Hole Ensemble Artistic Director/NYITA winner Edward Elefterion. The production plays October 28th to November 13th, Thursday-Saturday at 8pm, at Brooklyn Arts Exchange, 421 5th Avenue, Park Slope. Tickets are $18 ($15 students/seniors) and available with more information at www.rabbitholeensemble.com.  A Benefit Performance and Reception will be held opening night, Oct. 28th; tickets: $50.

Rabbit Hole Ensemble (RHE) celebrates its Fifth Anniversary by returning to one of literature's most influential and terrifying stories. Using physical theatre techniques, Kabuki, puppets, and the narrative foundation of story-theatre, this expressionistic gender-bending minimalist adaptation of Mary Shelley's novel, FRANKENSTEIN focuses exclusively on the doctor's side of the story. Much like RHE's award-winning adaptation of Dracula (THE NIGHT OF NOSFERATU), the company is working with resident playwright Stanton Wood in a year-long exploration of FRANKENSTEIN and its themes; Part 2 will tell the same story, focusing on the monster's side of the story (to be presented in 2011).

Stanton Wood is the Resident Playwright at Rabbit Hole Ensemble. His play, BIG THICK ROD (RHE/FringeNYC 2008), was recently published by Original Works. His productions with RHE include CANDIDE AMERICANA and THE NIGHT OF NOSFERATU (2008 NYITA nomination for Outstanding Full-Length Script). Director Edward Elefterion is the Artistic Director of Rabbit Hole Ensemble, recipient of the 2008 NYIT Award for Outstanding Director, and nominee for the 2009 NYIT Award for Outstanding Choreography. Among his credits: the award-winning THE NIGHT OF NOSFERATU, BEFORE YOUR VERY EYES ("taut, powerful," Theateronline), SHADOW OF HIMSELF by NEAL BELL (called "captivating" by Showbusiness Weekly), CANDIDE AMERICANA. He has taught acting at Hofstra University for the past nine years, and is a member of the Society for Stage Directors and Choreographers.

Featured in the cast: Arthur Aulisi (named Person of the Year 2008 by nytheatre.com), Emily Hartford (off Broadway's THE CONTRAST at Mirror Repertory Company), Elyse Knight (AWOL at the Public Theatre and A NIGHT AT THE OPERA at EST), and Jocelyn O'Neil (MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING at the Lincoln Center Institute/Aquila Theatre Co.).

RABBIT HOLE ENSEMBLE, founded in 2005, is a Brooklyn-based theatre company that engages the imagination of audiences by using the power of the performer to create atmosphere and story. Performers use their bodies and voices to create characters, environments, and sound design. Their distinctly minimalist aesthetic has been recognized by many publications, among them The New York Times ("[for those] who enjoy something experimentally interesting…an intriguing production," 2009); Time Out ("Four Stars—Critic's Pick," 2008); The Village Voice ("should not be missed," 2009) NYTheatre.com ("Spectacular," 2007); Broadway World ("a grand and spine-tingling production," 2007); and Talkin' Broadway ("a fully conceived and flawlessly executed piece of theatre," 2006) In addition, the company has received two New York Innovative Theatre Awards, and seven nominations, over the past two years.

THE TRAGIC STORY OF DOCTOR FRANKENSTEIN, by Stanton Wood, directed by Edward Elefterion, featuring Arthur Aulisi, Emily Hartford, Elyse Knight, Jocelyn O'Neil. October 28th-November 13th; Thursdays-Saturdays at 8pm at Brooklyn Arts Exchange, 421 Fifth Avenue, Park Slope. Transportation: F,R to 4th Avenue & 9th Street. Hi there.

I'm a guy with a little dog looking for a room for rent in the Ditmas Park area. I'm a former resident, looking to move back into the area.
